Website Facebook Email Directions

Details: STRAWBERRIES - Our mission is simple: farming, educating and conserving... We farm by using sustainable crop growing methods such as no-till planting and cover crops. We grow well-known crops (corn, soybeans, alfalfa) alongside artisan flours (oats, durum, emmer, spelt) and other edible crops (bi-color sweet corn, strawberries, sugar-snap peas, squash). Beef cattle graze in pastures that have never been touched by a plow. The woods "in the back 40" shelter maple trees tapped for maple syrup and black walnut trees that offer beyond-organic-nuts.nnWe educate by opening our farm to you, the public. Our agri-tourism activities include educational components to help you learn more about farming. Maple syrup making, strawberry growing, rotational grazing of animals, beekeeping and crop rotation are just a few of the activities we explain. Our farm is open to groups and people of all ages. There are more opportunities for you to experience our farm than we can mention here.nnWe conserve by implementing sustainable farming practices that work with the land, not against it. You will see undisturbed waterways for the water to flow cleanly through our fields without removing crop soil. Our strawberries enjoy underground irrigation that reduces water consumption. The pond and stream are alive with fish, frogs and muskrats. As of 2016 eagles are nesting and raising their young here.nnWe do all of this on a 150 acre family-owned farm that has been in the Meuer Family since 1969. Farming is our way of life. We enjoy working the land, teaching others about farming and preserving our farmland for future generations.n

Our goal is to produce the best quality fruits and vegetables that we can. With that in mind, we use Best Management Practices in our farming operation. This starts with selecting healthy root stock from a trusted nursery. Our fruit varieties are chosen because they have natural resistance to certain pests and diseases. Cultural practices are used for weed control such as cultivation when possible and also hand weeding. We monitor our fields at least twice a week looking for any pest problems. Pesticides are used only when damaging levels of pests are present. It is our policy to apply nothing when we have developing fruit on the plants. We are not a chemical free farm but we try to use them as little as possible.
